Strong start to the year: Caravanning industry defies difficult environment

Despite the ongoing Corona pandemic, new registrations across both segments are off to a successful start in 2022, with new leisure vehicle registrations up 18.9 percent in January. A total of 4,844 new vehicles were registered last month. However, this dynamic increase must also be put into perspective against the backdrop of last year’s low comparative figure following the purchases brought forward in the wake of the temporary VAT reduction.

Recovery in new caravan registrations

Particularly pleasing from the point of view of the caravaning sector was the strong performance of the caravan segment. New registrations of this vehicle type had lost some ground, particularly in the second half of 2021. In January, they rose by a strong 23.0 percent year-on-year to 924 vehicles.

New registrations of motor caravans on the rise again

New motor caravan registrations also rose in January, posting their best-ever performance for the month. 3,920 vehicles put on the road for the first time represent an 18.0 percent increase from January 2021, when new registrations had dropped due to the hard Corona lockdown.
